Childhood and Adolescent Disorders
Childhood and adolescence are challenging for a number of reasons, which can be further complicated by the emergence of changes to their mental wellness and emotional health. These changes can be caused by factors that are biochemical, environmental, or a combination of the two.
Treatment for Childhood and Adolescent Disorders
Many of our counselors at kp counseling have extensive experience working with younger clients diagnosed with a mental illness. Our team begins by taking the stigma off of mental health counseling, assuring these young people there is nothing “wrong” with them, and helping them learn to manage their symptoms and alleviate them when possible. In most cases, we recommend parental or guardian involvement in the process to help monitor the child’s symptoms at home and track progress. We are also available to answer questions from parents about what their child is experiencing and how they can help support their child through the counseling process.
Seeing a child struggle can be one of the most difficult things a parent ever has to face. At kp counseling, we understand the overwhelming nature of the challenge and work with parents and kids to help them achieve mental and emotional health and a higher quality of life. In many cases, a young person will begin to experience symptoms of anxiety or depression in response to a significant life change, such as:
- Divorce
- A move
- Loss of a family pet
- Loss of a relative
- Difficulty making friends
- Physical or emotional abuse
- Academic difficulties
- Bullying
- Birth of a new sibling
- Illness of a family member or friend
