Anxiety

Anxiety can be a common reaction to life’s stressors. Threats of danger may lead us to become frightened or worried. We may even begin thinking incessantly about the issue until the threat passes. For a person struggling with anxiety, those feelings may never seem to go away. For some people, a specific event or problem may lead to anxiety, such as a divorce, financial difficulties, or relational stress. Others may be unsure of what the source is; they just have an uneasiness that never seems to subside.

If your anxiety is a constant companion that interferes with your ability to function on a daily basis, you may have what is known as an anxiety disorder. Approximately 18 percent of American adults struggle with this type of anxiety, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, which disrupts their daily functioning. The prevalence rate for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18 is around 25 percent.
