Community Partnerships

kp counseling is getting involved.  We have several counselors working at local area schools and organizations helping serve the mental health needs of our community.

Michelle McCabe-Schafer
Clinical Director and School Liaison:  Michelle McCabe-Schafer

Michelle received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Women and Gender Studies from Illinois State University and her Master’s Degree in Applied Child and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University.

Michelle has worked as an outpatient intern therapist in community mental health and a therapist in both residential and inpatient settings. She has experience working primarily with adolescents and young adults to maneuver crisis situations and life transitions. She also obtained her CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) certification and has worked with adolescents struggling with substance abuse and addiction issues. Michelle has experience helping people navigate depression, anxiety, self-esteem, identity exploration, school-related stress, addiction (substance-related), body image, anger management, and relationship stressors. Michelle enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families.

Michelle approaches counseling as a collaboration between therapist and client. She strives to be a supportive change agent helping to guide clients towards their goals. In her free time, Michelle enjoys spending time with her family, exercising, reading, playing games, and traveling.

 

Mackenzie Logan, LPC
Whitehead Elementary SchoolMackenzie Logan, LPC

Mackenzie is a licensed Professional Counselor who recently joined the KP Counseling Team in 2024. Before this transition, she was working as a group therapy facilitator and individual therapist in Wisconsin for 3 years. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of treatment settings. Mackenzie received a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University Chicago and received her Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Social Welfare from Augustana College. Through her education and experience, Mackenzie has learned to focus on the holistic individual and building a lasting therapeutic relationship with each client. Mackenzie is currently working towards her LCPC licensure and is under the supervision of Dr. Christina Warden.

In her spare time, Mackenzie enjoys boating, playing with her pets, reading, and spending time with loved ones.

Andrew Eytalis
Shirland School District: Andrew Eytalis, LPC

Andrew joined KP counseling in 2025. Andrew received his Master Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University in 2023. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois.

Prior to joining KP counseling he worked within community mental health. He has a passion for working with adults and children who are experiencing ADHD. Andrew has previous experience working with people within addiction, trauma, suicidal thoughts, and loss. He is dedicated to providing a non-judgemental space for individauls to find their true self under layers of pain. Utilizing approaches such as IFS, DBT, SFBT, and CBT to help clients reach their identified goals.

Alma E. Zamora-Yarbrough
Rockford Christian Schools: Alma E. Zamora-Yarbrough

Alma joined the KP Counseling team in April 2024. She has earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and her Master’s in Social Work from George Williams College of Aurora University. Prior to joining the KP team she worked at Beloit College as an Assistant Director for the Help Yourself Program. She worked with middle school, high school and college students helping them prepare for both college and beyond.

Alma believes that it is very important to build a healthy relationship with her students to create a safe place for them to grow, heal, and focus on learning. She believes that it is a privilege to journey with individuals and to assist students as they may navigate the ups and downs of life. Alma will be working with students at Rockford Christian.

She is available to help students with issues as it relates to anxiety, depression, areas of bullying, self-destructing behaviors, trauma, and self-esteem struggles. She prioritizes empathy and cares about each student’s individuality. Alma believes that her role as a Sr Behavioral Health Clinician is to help students realize their unlimited potential by removing barriers that keep them from healing and maximizing their school experience. Alma employs a variety of therapeutic techniques with her students, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy, case management, and art therapy.
