Mark Honzel

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor | LCPC

Mark joined KP Counseling in 2020. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and is certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.

Mark is a lifelong resident of Rockford, graduating from Boylan Central Catholic High School. He earned an Associates in Arts from Rock Valley College, a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University.  Mark retired after 21 years with the Rockford Police Department where he was a K9 handler and a field training officer.

Mark has experience working with teenagers and adults. He has experience working with substance abuse, grief, trauma, mental health, anxiety, depression and family issues with youth and adults in a variety of settings including non-profit, law enforcement, and residential settings. Mark has experience working with first responders – law enforcement, corrections, fire fighters, EMS, and nursing, as well as veterans.  Mark also has professional and applied experience in crisis management and de-escalation strategies and techniques. Mark is passionate about working with others to obtain their full potential in life and believes that our past does not have to define us.

When not at work, Mark enjoys hunting, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and being in nature with his wife and children.
