20 years ago, I founded and opened kp counseling. I shared an office space and a receptionist (Cathy did everything!) with Kevin Anderson. I was hoping to have enough clients to make a living and support my family. I had been in the counseling field for 11 years but had never operated a business. I had a strong desire to help people and not fail as a business owner. So, I poured myself into reading books and talking to others about business and leadership. I have learned so much in the past 20 years. Some ideas worked and others did not. The intention was always the same, how can we help people who are struggling with social-emotional problems, break the stigma surrounding mental illness and change the negative perception around counseling.

It truly has been a collaborative effort of family and friends. Diane has helped in so many ways logo design, interior and exterior design and special event planning. Delinda has not only worked as a therapist but helped with cultural development. I could go on and on.

I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people who are passionate, talented, and committed to make a difference in people’s lives. I could not be prouder of the kp team and the impact they have on so many people and the community. 20 years later, there is 34 therapists working out of 2 different locations serving over 700 people weekly. We are integrated in 2 different school systems providing counseling services. We work with numerous universities proving an opportunity for graduate students a placement for their field work.

Again, I am so grateful for the past 20 years being able to do what I love, helping others and making a difference in our community. Looking forward to continuing this journey into the future.

Sincerely, kevin polky, CADC, LCSW
